SSL Certificate Checker
Check a website's SSL certificate: whether it is valid and trusted, who issued it and when it expires.
Enter a website to check its SSL certificate.
How to check an SSL certificate
- Type a website name, such as example.com.
- Click Check certificate.
- Read the verdict at the top, then the details: issuer, validity dates, days left and the names it covers.
What the certificate does
An SSL (TLS) certificate is what puts the padlock and https:// on a website. It proves the site is the one it claims to be and lets the connection be encrypted. Browsers show a full-page warning if the certificate has expired, was issued for a different name, or does not lead back to an authority they trust — and most visitors leave when they see it. Checking the expiry date ahead of time is the simplest way to avoid that.
Frequently asked questions
How long before expiry should I renew?
Most hosts renew automatically about 30 days before. If yours has fewer than 14 days left, check that renewal is working.
What does "not trusted" mean?
The certificate could not be traced back to a recognised authority. The usual cause is a missing intermediate certificate on the server.
The certificate covers a different name. Why?
The site is serving a certificate issued for another domain, often because it shares a server and has no certificate of its own installed.
Which port is checked?
Port 443, the standard port for https:// websites.
Is what I look up stored?
No. Our server makes the lookup once and sends the result back to you. What you enter and the result are not saved.
