User-Agent Parser

See what a user-agent string says: browser, version, operating system and device. Starts with your own.

User-agent string

Your own browser's user agent is shown. Paste another one to parse it.

How to use User-Agent Parser

  1. The box starts with your own browser's user-agent string.
  2. To check a different one, paste it over the top — for example from a server log.
  3. Read the browser, operating system and device it describes.

What a user agent is

Every time a browser asks for a web page, it sends a line of text describing itself: the browser and its version, the operating system, and sometimes the device. Websites use it to send the right layout and to count which browsers their visitors use. For historical reasons the string is confusing — nearly every browser begins with "Mozilla/5.0" and mentions Safari and Gecko — which is why a parser is needed to read it.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my Windows 11 PC show as Windows 10?

Browsers on Windows 11 deliberately report "Windows NT 10.0", so the two cannot be told apart from the user agent.

Can a user agent be faked?

Yes, easily. It is useful for statistics and layout, never as proof of who or what is visiting.

Why is my device model not shown?

Desktop browsers do not include one, and modern mobile browsers now hide the exact model for privacy.

Is my text uploaded to a server?

No. This tool runs entirely in your browser, so what you paste never leaves your device.
