Keeping the shape
In exact-size mode the proportions are locked by default: change the width and the height follows, so the picture is not squashed. Unlock it only if you really want to stretch the picture. Common sizes never stretch. They crop from the centre to fit the new shape.
Frequently asked questions
Will making a picture bigger improve it?
No. Enlarging adds pixels but not detail, so it looks softer. To sharpen and enlarge a small photo, use Image Enhancer.
Does the format change?
No. A JPG stays a JPG, a PNG stays a PNG, a WebP stays a WebP.
How do I make the file size smaller?
Resizing down helps, but for a target such as 100 KB use Compress Image.
