Getting the best result
OCR reads printed text best when the picture is sharp, straight and evenly lit, and the letters are at least as tall as they would be in a normal screenshot. Crop out everything except the text, photograph pages from directly above, and avoid shadows. Handwriting, decorative fonts and text over busy backgrounds produce many mistakes.
Frequently asked questions
How accurate is it?
Very good on clear printed text and screenshots. Always check names, numbers and dates, where a single wrong character matters.
Can it read handwriting?
Rarely well. The engine is trained on printed text.
Does it keep the layout?
It keeps line breaks and reading order. Columns and tables come out as plain lines of text.
I have a scanned PDF, not an image.
Use the OCR PDF tool, which reads every page and gives you a searchable PDF.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Your image is processed in your browser and never leaves your device.
