What it is good for
Small, soft or heavily compressed pictures: old photos, screenshots, product shots, images saved from chat apps, thumbnails you need to print or post larger. It makes edges and textures cleaner. It cannot bring back detail that was never in the picture, so very blurry faces or unreadable text will look smoother but not truly restored.

Is it really free?
Yes. No sign-up, no watermark and no limit on the number of pictures.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. The AI model is downloaded to your browser once (about 5 MB), and your picture is processed on your own device. It is never sent to us.
How long does it take?
Usually a few seconds. A small picture is upscaled by AI in roughly 5 to 25 seconds, depending on your device. A large photo is sharpened in a second or two. If you ask for an AI upscale of a large photo, that can take a minute or more on a computer without a modern graphics card. The page shows the time left, and you can cancel.
Why did my large photo get a quick sharpen and not AI?
AI upscaling is heavy work that your own device does, not a server. On a large photo it can take minutes, and a large photo rarely needs to be made bigger. So the page sharpens it at full size straight away, and offers AI upscale as a button if you still want it.
What is the difference between 2× and 4×?
Both come from the same AI result. 4× is four times wider and taller than what went in. 2× is the same result at half that size, which is usually enough and makes a smaller file.
Why was my photo made smaller before the AI upscale?
To keep the wait reasonable, the picture that goes into the AI is limited to about 1 megapixel (2 megapixels on computers with a fast graphics card), and less on slow devices. The page tells you when this happens. The 4× result is 16 times as many pixels as what went in.
Does it change brightness or colours?
No. It works on sharpness and detail only. Colours and brightness stay as they are.
