How to use the Meta Tag Generator
- Type your page title and description. The counters show how much room you have left.
- Choose whether search engines should index the page and follow its links.
- Copy the code and paste it inside the <head> section of your page.
Which meta tags matter for SEO?
The title is the clickable headline in search results and the strongest on-page signal you control. The description is the text under it; it does not affect ranking directly, but a good one earns more clicks. The robots tag decides whether the page may appear in search at all. The keywords tag is ignored by Google.
Frequently asked questions
How long should a title be?
Aim for 30 to 60 characters. Google cuts titles off at roughly 580 pixels wide, which is about 60 characters.
How long should a meta description be?
Between 70 and 160 characters. Longer descriptions are cut off; very short ones waste the space.
Where do I put the tags?
Inside the <head> section of the page's HTML, before the closing </head> tag. In WordPress, an SEO plugin adds them for you.
Will Google always show my title and description?
Usually, but not always. Google sometimes rewrites them when it thinks other text on the page answers the search better.
Is what I type sent to a server?
No. This tool runs entirely in your browser, so nothing you enter leaves your device.
