Frequently asked questions
Why is "yes" kept as text and not turned into true?
The tool follows the current YAML standard (1.2), where only true and false are booleans. Older parsers also treated yes, no, on and off as booleans, which caused well-known surprises.
What happens with several YAML documents in one file?
Documents separated by --- are converted into one JSON array, with one entry per document.
Are comments kept?
No. JSON has no comments, so YAML comments are dropped.
Is my text uploaded to a server?
No. This tool runs entirely in your browser, so what you paste never leaves your device.
