What is stored inside a photo
Cameras and phones save a record with every picture: the make and model, the date and time, the lens and exposure settings, and often the exact GPS coordinates of where it was taken. This record, called EXIF metadata, travels with the file when you email it or upload it to many websites, and can reveal where you live or work.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my photo show no metadata?
Messaging apps and social networks such as WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook remove metadata when you send or upload a photo. Screenshots have none either. Use the original file to see everything.
Which formats are supported?
JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC and TIFF. JPEG and HEIC photos from phones carry the most information.
How do I remove this data?
Use the EXIF Metadata Remover, which takes it out without changing the picture.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Your photo is processed in your browser and never leaves your device.
