How to convert RTF to PDF

  1. Choose your .rtf document.
  2. Check the preview.
  3. Click Save as PDF. In the window that opens, choose Save as PDF as the printer or destination, then save.

What to expect

The text and its formatting are converted: fonts, sizes, bold, italic and underline, colours, alignment and paragraphs. Simple documents such as letters, notes and reports convert well. Complex layouts — tables with merged cells, text boxes, headers and footers — may look different from the original, so check the preview before saving.

Frequently asked questions

What is an RTF file?

Rich Text Format is an older document format that most word processors can open and save, including WordPad on Windows and TextEdit on Mac.

Are images kept?

Common picture types inside the document are shown. Unusual embedded objects may be left out.

My document looks wrong in the preview.

Open it in a word processor and save it as .docx, then use the Word to PDF tool, which handles more layouts.

Why does a print window open?

The PDF is made by your browser's built-in PDF engine, which gives sharp, selectable text in every language. Choosing "Save as PDF" in that window saves the file instead of printing it. You can also set the paper size, margins and orientation there.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Your file is converted in your browser and never leaves your device.
