How to repair a PDF
- Choose the PDF that will not open or shows errors.
- Click Repair PDF.
- Download the repaired file, open it and check that all pages are there.
What can and cannot be repaired
A PDF contains an index that tells a reader where each page is stored. When a download is cut short or a file is damaged in transfer, that index is often what breaks, and it can be rebuilt from the rest of the file. If the page data itself is missing — for example, half the file never downloaded — it cannot be brought back, and the tool will tell you so instead of giving you a broken file.
Frequently asked questions
Will every damaged PDF be fixed?
No. Files with a broken index or a missing end usually can be. Files where the actual page content is missing or overwritten cannot.
It says no damage was found, but my PDF still will not open.
Then the file structure is intact and the problem is elsewhere. Try another PDF reader, or check whether the file needs a password.
Could repairing make things worse?
No. Your original file is not changed. You get a separate repaired copy, and it is only offered if its pages can actually be read.
What should I try first?
If you can, download or copy the file again from its source. A fresh copy is always better than a repaired one.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Your PDF is processed in your browser and never leaves your device.
