How to compare two PDF files

  1. Add the original PDF on the left and the revised PDF on the right.

  3. Read the changes: added text is highlighted in green and removed text is struck through in red. Download the report if you need to share it.

What this tool compares

It compares the text of the two documents word by word, across the whole file. If a paragraph is added near the start and everything after it moves to a different page, only the new paragraph is reported as a change. Each change is shown with a few words around it and the page it is on in both versions.

Frequently asked questions

Does it compare images, fonts or layout?

No. It compares text only. Two PDFs with the same words but different images, fonts or page layout are reported as having identical text.

Can it compare scanned PDFs?

No. A scanned PDF is a set of pictures and has no text to read, so the tool tells you there is nothing to compare rather than reporting a false match.

Why does it say my PDFs are too different?

The two files share very little text, which usually means they are not versions of the same document.

Is there a size limit?

There is no fixed limit. Long contracts and reports work; the practical limit is your device's memory.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Both PDFs are read and compared in your browser and never leave your device.
